Karen Hull Awarded Bison of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa.- Karen Hull started the 2023-24 track and field season with two wins in the 60-meter hurdles and the high jump at the annual Bison Opener to clinch Bison of the Week honors for the week ending on 12/3. This is Hull's second time winning Bison of the Week. Her previous laurel was on 1/22/23 for her Gulden Invitational where she also won the 60-meter hurdles and the high jump events.
"Karen had an outstanding meet and has essentially picked up where she left off in the spring of 2023 which is an ideal situation for an athlete's progression from season to season," said head coach Kevin Donner. "She missed some training over the past month due to an ankle sprain, so I believe Saturday's performances were just the tip of the iceberg of what's to come later this season."
Hull picked up where she left off from her record-breaking 2022-23 campaign. The multi-event athlete won the 60-meter hurdles and the high jump to lead all Bucknell competitors with two wins as part of the Bison's eighth gold medals.
By winning the high jump with a mark of 5-8, the senior clinched ECAC qualification and tied for first in Bucknell history with Amy Mantush (2010) and Michaela Bracken (2022). Hull also owns the outdoor high jump (5-9 ¼) mark. Hull is the first Bison to hold both high jump records since Mantush did so from 2010-2019.
Hull's second victory came in the 60-meter hurdles. Her time of 8.69 was only 0.01 seconds away from Kafilat Oladiran's record-breaking best mark of 8.68. Hull already had the second-best time in Bucknell history at 8.74 and thus improved upon her personal best.
The Bison track team returns to action on Jan. 13 at the Nittany Lion Challenge.Â
