Sofilkanich Awarded Patriot League Rookie of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa.- Ashley Sofilkanich was named the PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week on Monday as announced by the league office. It is Sofilkanich's and Bucknell's first weekly award of the 2023-24 season.
Sofilkanich was electric in her two games against solid non-conference foes, St. Joseph's and Cornell. The freshman forward notched 40 points, collected 14 rebounds, and blocked six shots. She was an efficient shooter going 16-of-26 from the field and 8-of-12 from the charity stripe.
Against undefeated St. Joseph's, Sofilkanich more than held her own. The forward shot 8-of-11 from the court and 2-of-4 from the free throw line to lead the Bison with 18 points. She also grabbed five rebounds.
Sofilkanich shined against Cornell on Saturday dominating the Big Red to the tune of 22 points, a career-high for the New Jersey native. In 31 minutes of play, she shot 8-of-15 from the field and converted 6-of-8 free throw opportunities. A presence in the paint, Sofilkanich pulled down nine rebounds (narrowly missing her first double-double) and swatted four Cornell shots.
The forward leads the Bison in scoring (11.3), rebounds (5.0), field goal percentage (.507), and blocks (1.6).
Bucknell returns to action tomorrow at Mount St. Mary's. The tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
