Sofilkanich Wins Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the Second Time

LEWISBURG, Pa.- Following Bucknell's decisive 64-44 win over Merrimack on Sunday, Ashley Sofilkanich won the PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league's office on Monday. It is the second time this season that the freshman forward has taken home the honor. She previously won the laurel on Dec. 4. She joins teammate Emma Theodorsson as a current Bison to win the award at least twice.Â
Sofilkanich played a crucial supporting role in Bucknell's Sunday win. The forward was fourth on the team in scoring with seven points. Sofilkanich scored two baskets from the court and went 3-for-4 from the charity stripe. She made her presence felt in the paint with six rebounds (second on the team) and led the Bison in blocks with two. Defensively, she shined by collecting three steals to tie with Blake Matthews for the team lead.Â
The South Amboy, N.J. native leads the Bison in scoring (11.2), field goal percentage (.449), blocks (1.7), and is tied with Matthews in steals (1.3).Â
Sofilkanich and the Bison complete the non-conference season this Thursday when they travel to #19 Marquette. The tip is scheduled for 1 p.m. Eastern time.Â
