Bucknell at a Glance
• Bucknell officially begins its 2023-24 season at Oklahoma State Friday evening. The Cowboys were ranked No. 11 in the country in the latest NWCA Coaches Poll. It's Bucknell's second consecutive season opening with a match against the Cowboys. The Bison then travel 100 miles northeast to face Oklahoma Wesleyan on Saturday.
• The Bison return all three 2023 NCAA qualifiers: Dylan Chappell (149), Dorian Crosby (285) and Kurt Phipps (133). Chappell and Crosby were both automatic qualifiers, and Phipps was one of 47 wrestlers to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships.
• Bucknell also returns four of its five EIWA placewinners from a season ago: Chappell, Crosby, Phipps and Nick Delp (157).
• Six Bison appeared in the Intermat and FloWrestling national rankings this week: Phipps (16/13), Noah Mulvaney (33/13) at 165, Crosby (32/30), Delp (-/30), Chappell (-/26) and Logan Deacetis (22/-) at 184 pounds.
• Bucknell graduated six seniors in 2023, including 2021 NCAA qualifier and three-time EIWA placewinner Darren Miller as well as 2021 EIWA placewinners Mason McCready and Vincent Andreano.
• Bucknell's 2023-24 slate includes four teams ranked in the latest NWCA Coaches Poll: No. 11 Oklahoma State, No. 15 Minnesota, No. 19 Wisconsin and No. 20 Lehigh.
• Head coach Dan Wirnsberger enters his 18th season with the Bison. He ranks second all-time in program history in wins and is two shy of 150 career victories.
• Bucknell competed at the Clarion Open last weekend and placed four on the podium. Freshman Noah Mulvaney won the 165-pound bracket, freshman Cade Wirnsberger placed third at 157, Crosby took third at 285, and Chappell placed fourth at 149.
• Mulvaney was named EIWA Wrestler of the Week this week after going 6-0 at the Clarion Open, including a win over 15th-ranked Josh Ogunsanya from Columbia.
• The Bison added 10 newcomers this season, and the group was dubbed the No. 19 recruiting class in the country by Intermat.
• Chappell, Crosby, Delp and Phipps are serving as team captains this season.
• Bucknell welcomed two new assistant coaches to the staff this season. Donny Ooton, who is in his second stint in Lewisburg after serving as an assistant in 2009 and 2010, and Thomas Flitz, who comes to Bucknell from Virginia.

• The Cowboys enter the season ranked 11th in the latest NWCA Coaches Poll. They posted a 14-3 (8-1 Big 12) record and placed 18th at the NCAA Championships in 2022-23.
• Oklahoma State returns two All-Americans and added two more through the transfer portal. At 133 pounds, Dayton Fix is a four-time All-American and enters the season ranked No. 2 in the country.
• Oklahoma State boasts eight ranked wrestlers in its projected lineup, including three ranked in the top six.
• Oklahoma State ins 7-0 in all-time meetings with the Bison. Bucknell hosted Oklahoma State in Sojka Pavilion last season and fell 30-6 to the 11th-ranked Cowboys. Darren Miller and Nick Delp both scored victories for the Bison.

• Oklahoma Wesleyan was receiving votes in the first NAIA National Coaches Poll of the season. They also enter the season with two nationally-ranked wrestlers: No. 7 Kolby Enchinas (133) and No. 16 Donte Lopez (141). Both qualified for the 2023 NAIA Men's Wrestling Champions.
• The Bison and the Eagles meet for the first time on Saturday.
• Eagles head coach Tom Carr spent three seasons on Dan Wirnsberger's staff as an assistant coach at Bucknell.
