LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell football's Coleman Bennett, John Ohnegian and Ethan Robinson were each named to the 2023 Academic All-Patriot League Team, the league office announced Wednesday. They were the second postseason honors for Bennett and Robinson, who were both named to the All-Patriot League Team on Tuesday. Bucknell has had multiple Academic All-League honorees for 11 consecutive seasons and have now had three honorees two years in a row.
Bennett has earned the academic award in back-to-back seasons. A sociology major and Spanish minor, Bennett has been consistently recognized for his dedication in the classroom and for his extracurricular involvement throughout his career. In October, he was one of 39 FCS student-athletes to be named a 2023 William V. Campbell Trophy® Semifinalist by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame. The award recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and leadership.
Bennett was one of four team captains this season and has been a recipient of Bucknell's Theodore S. Ratkus Leadership Award for character, courage and commitment to team play and the Tom Gadd Coaches' Award. He's also active on campus as a member of Bucknell's Bison Athletes of Color affinity group and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In 2022, he was named an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar.
On Tuesday, Bennett was named an All-Patriot League First Team return specialist and an All-League Second Team running back.
Ohnegian is Bucknell's first sophomore to earn a spot on the Academic All-Patriot League Team since Rick Mottram in 2018. The Ramsey, N.J. native was Bucknell's only offensive lineman to start all 11 games, holding down the fort at center this season after not seeing game action as a freshman. He was named Bucknell's 2022 Scout Team Player of the Year on offense.
Ohnegian has maintained an outstanding 3.79 cumulative grade-point average and is pursuing a bachelor of arts degree. He was a member of the 2022 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
Robinson was also voted to the All-Patriot League First Team on Tuesday at defensive back and now earns his first Academic All-Patriot League Team spot as a junior. A junior economics major, Robinson is a three-year member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and is involved on campus with Bison Athletes of Color and the Bison Cares community engagement group.
Robinson has started 26 games throughout his career and tied for fifth in the FCS with 1.4 passes defended per game this season. He registered 10 pass breakups and a team-high three interceptions.
Bucknell was one of three schools with three Academic All-Patriot League Team honorees, joining Fordham and Holy Cross. The Crusaders' fifth-year linebacker Jacob Dobbs was voted the 2023 Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
