LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior guard Josh Bascoe emerged as a "super sub" for the Bucknell men's basketball team during the first week of the 2023-24 season, and he earned Bison of the Week honors on Monday for his efforts.
Bascoe came off the bench to dish out eight assists in the season opener against Delaware, and then in game two he scored in double figures for the first time in his career with 10 points against Penn at The Palestra. Bascoe trumped both of those performances in Saturday's 73-64 road win at Niagara, scoring a career-high 15 points in 19 minutes off the bench.
Bascoe went 5-for-7 from the field and hit all three of his 3-point attempts against the Purple Eagles. Of his 15 points, 12 came in the second half, including two of the biggest shots of the game in the closing stages. Bascoe's third trey of the night stretched a five-point lead up to eight with 2:26 remaining. After Niagara answered with a three, Bascoe attacked the rim for a scoop shot to make it 67-60 with 1:35 left. He then finished it off with two free throws with 31 seconds left, capping a 10-for-10 stretch at the charity stripe for the Bison in the final four minutes.
For the season, Bascoe is averaging 8.3 points in 22.2 minutes per game. He also has a team-high 13 assists with only five turnovers.
Bucknell continues its four-game road trip this week with games at La Salle on Tuesday and at Duke on Friday.
