LEWISBURG, Pa. – Led by a T-7th finish from sophomore Paige Richter, the Bucknell women's golf team on Tuesday wrapped up a successful fall season with a fifth-place performance in a 16-team field at the Lehigh Invitational. The Bison closed with a 311 team tally, 11 strokes better than Monday's opening round.
Bucknell finished in the top five in the team standings in all five of its fall tournaments, and its 307.7 scoring average is a new school record. The previous low mark for a fall season was 310.1 in 2018.
Richter and freshman Nicole Yun both shot 3-over-par 75s on Tuesday. Richter made back-to-back birdies at holes 10 and 11 and fired a 1-under 35 on the back nine. She started the day T-11th and moved up four spots with one of the better rounds in the field, giving her a second top-10 finish of the season.
Yun fashioned four birdies on the day, including two in a row on holes 3 and 4. The Bison also counted an 80 from Cristina Canales and an 81 from Katherine Vice. Canales was the No. 2 Bison for the week, finishing in T-17th place in a field of 90 players.
Fairleigh Dickinson compiled a final-round 299 to swipe the team title with a 36-hole total of 610. UAlbany was second at 617, and first-round leader Howard dropped to third with a 623 total. LIU was fourth at 629, and Bucknell (633) nudged out Fairfield (634) by one stroke for a top-five spot.
Mariel Tee of UAlbany finished at 3-over 147 (73-74) to claim medalist honors. Yuki Zhu of Lehigh and Apichaya Chirakunakor of FDU both closed with 72s to finish two shots back, and they were joined by FDU's Victoria Schroedl and Howard's Marley Franklin in a four-way tie for second place.
The Bison will next set their sights on the spring season, which starts with the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate, hosted by UNC Greensboro at Hammock Creek GC in Palm City, Fla. Bucknell will be looking to build toward the 2024 Patriot League Championship, which it will be hosting on Apr. 19-21.
