LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's swimming & diving team put on a show in its final tune-up before the 2023 Patriot League Championships, as the Bison won eight events, went 1-2-3 in the 400 IM, and saw three register program top-10 times at Kinney Natatorium on Saturday.
John Gehrig made his mark in the record book once again with a 49.88 in the 100 backstroke, which places him eighth all-time in the event. He touched the wall just before teammate Shane Wynne, who was one of six Bison to record a runner-up finish on Saturday. Gehrig also raced to the 10th-best time in school history in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:01.94.
Justin DiSanto and Matt Raudabaugh made their way into the annals as well, finishing first and third in the 100 breaststroke, respectively. DiSanto's 55.42 eclipses the 55.61 he posted earlier in the season at the Bucknell Invitational and further solidifies him at the No. 7 spot. Raudabaugh made his way onto the list for the first time with a 56.35, which places him in a tie for 10th with 2019 grad Tom Gannon.
Along with his win in the 100 backstroke and 200 breaststroke, Gehrig swam the first leg of Bucknell's winning 200 freestyle relay. Gehrig, Andy Dorsel, Chris Kopac and Nick Shopis clocked a 1:22.74, finishing just ahead of Bucknell's second-place squad (1:22.83).
The Bison took the top three spots in the 400 IM, as Chris Kopac (1st, 3:58.06), Braden Beagle (2nd, 4:03.06) and Wynne (3rd, 4:03.16) finished in order ahead of three Navy swimmers.
Chris Fabian (200 IM), Christian Stef (100 freestyle), Kopac (400 IM) and Dorsel (200 freestyle) rounded out the first-place finishers for the Bison.
Bucknell will spend the next two weeks gearing up for the championship meet, which will be hosted at Kinney Natatorium Feb. 15-18.
