Setting the Scene
What: Bucknell vs. Lehigh
When: Saturday, Jan. 21 – 12 p.m.
Where: Kinney Natatorium – Lewisburg, Pa.
Bison Recognize Class of 2023
• Before Saturday's dual meet with Lehigh, the Bison will recognize their 14 members of the class of 2023.
• The women's seniors are Catherine Craig, Sophia Donati, Naomi Douek, Megan Phelan, Alexandra Ritorto, Jacqueline Rounsavill, Molly See and Sabrina Vumbacco.
• The men's seniors are Alec Baker, Ryaan Hatoum, Garrett Kiesel, Leo Kuyl, Nick Pirone and Christian Stef.
• The women's team has gone 27-4 during the current senior class' time at Bucknell. The eight women's seniors have combined for 226 points at the two Patriot League Championships contested during their time in Lewisburg, to date.
• The men's team has gone 18-13 during this senior class' time at Bucknell. The six men's seniors have combined for 107 points at the two Patriot League Championships, to date.
• Craig, Donati and Vumbacco are each All-Patriot League selections from the class, and Craig has received the honor twice in her career.
• On the men's side, Leo Kuyl received All-Patriot League honors in 2022.
Bucknell Women at a Glance
• Bucknell is 5-2 (4-2 PL) following its 202.5-97.5 loss to Army last Saturday. This Saturday's matchup with Lehigh marks the team's final dual meet of the season.
• Last time out, Sabrina Vumbacco won both the 1000-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle.
• Bucknell is 35-5 (27-5 PL) in dual meets dating back to the 2018-19 season. Four of its five losses over that stretch have been to Navy.
• The Bison posted a 9-1 (7-1 PL) record during the 2021-22 season. They finished second at the 2022 Patriot League Championships, winning 10 medals and collecting 577.5 points. Bucknell also took second at the previous championships in 2019-20 and have now been the runner-up 13 times in program history.
• Bucknell returned five of its six All-Patriot League honorees: Catherine Craig (1st in 2022, 2nd in 2020), Abby Doss (1st in 2022), Vumbacco (1st in 2022, 2nd in 2020), Sophia Donati (2nd in 2022), Esme Hunter (2nd in 2022).
• Craig, Doss and Vumbacco are Bucknell's three returning First Team All-Leaguers.
• Bucknell added seven student-athletes to its program ahead of the 2022-23 campaign. The newcomers hail from seven different states: California, Connecticut, Maryland, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Bucknell Men at a Glance
• Bucknell's men's team is 5-2 (4-2 PL) after falling to Army, 170.5-127.5. This Saturday's matchup with Lehigh marks the team's final dual meet of the season.
• The Bison took first place in seven events last weekend against Army.
• John Gehrig was named the Patriot League Men's Swimmer of the Week back in October and has also earned Bison of the Week honors once this season.
• Bucknell was 7-3 (6-2 PL) last season. It was the team's best record in dual meet competition since the 2013-14 season.
• The Bison took third at the 2022 Patriot League Championships with 559.5 points, which were the most they've collected since 2012. The team broke a staggering 11 school records, helping head coach Dan Schinnerer earn his third-career Patriot League Men's Coach of the Year nod.
• Bucknell returned six of its eight 2022 All-Patriot League honorees, including all four First Teamers: Andy Dorsel (1st in 2022), Chris Fabian (1st in 2022), Gehrig (1st in 2022), Chris Kopac (1st in 2022), Justin DiSanto (2nd in 2022), Leo Kuyl (2nd in 2022).
• The Bison welcomed 11 newcomers to the program ahead of the 2022-23 campaign. They hail from eight different states: California, Connecticut (2), Florida, Maryland, New York (2), Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia.
Lehigh Women at a Glance
• Lehigh is 5-2 (2-0 PL) after defeating Seton Hall 122-119 last Friday. The Mountain Hawks' two league wins were over Lafayette and Loyola.
• The Mountain Hawks went 4-3 (2-2 PL) last season and placed fifth at the 2022 Patriot League Championships with 258 points.
• Lehigh returned one of its two All-Patriot League honorees from last season: Natalie Martin (2nd Team).
• Bucknell leads 33-10 in the all-time series with Lehigh, dating back to 1977. The Bison have claimed each of the last five meetings.
• The Bison defeated the Mountain Hawks 199-101 in Bethlehem, Pa. last season. Then-sophomore Abby Doss led the way with three individual victories, while Esme Hunter added two. Bucknell took first in 12 events overall.
Lehigh Men at a Glance
• Lehigh is 2-5 (1-1 PL) with wins over Bloomsburg and Lafayette. Most recently, the Mountain Hawks fell 166-75 at Seton Hall last Friday.
• Lehigh finished the 2021-22 season 2-5 (1-3 PL) and placed sixth at the last Patriot League Championships with 201 points.
• Two Mountain Hawks earned All-Patriot League Second Team honors last season, but neither are back for the 2022-23 season.
• Bucknell leads 39-21 in the all-time series with the Mountain Hawks, dating back to 1960. The Bison claimed the two most recent meetings, but Lehigh has taken three of the last five.
• Bucknell defeated the Mountain Hawks 193-105 last season thanks to a pair of wins each by John Gehrig and Chris Kopac. The Bison claimed 11 first-place finishes overall.
A Look Ahead
• Bucknell is back in Kinney Natatorium on Saturday, Jan. 28 to host the Bison Invite. It's the team's final competition before the Patriot League Championships.
