LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell head men's tennis coach Bruce Myers has announced his resignation and will be moving on to another Division I coaching opportunity to be announced in the coming days. Myers served as the Bison head coach for the last six seasons.
"The decision to leave Bucknell University was very difficult and I will miss it dearly," said Myers. "Our children spent a good portion of their childhood in Lewisburg, and we will always be grateful for all of the wonderful people we have met and friendships we developed both in athletics and academics. I will cherish my relationships with all of the student-athletes whom I coached, but even more so, those who came before my time at Bucknell, but still remain heavily involved and invested in the men's tennis program. Those relationships are truly special, and Bucknell is really one of those places that fosters that strong bond."
Myers coached five First Team All-Patriot League selections and four Academic All-Patriot League honorees during his six seasons at Bucknell. Newcomer Harrison Gold and junior team captain Michael Owen captured those respective honors this past spring, when the Bison advanced to the Patriot League Tournament semifinals for the second time during Myers' tenure.
Throughout his time at Bucknell, Myers challenged his team with tough non-conference schedules, and he departs with a 48-85 overall record and a 17-17 record against Patriot League competition.
Myers' 2022-23 recruiting class is ranked 27th among all Division I programs and sixth among Mid-Major programs by tennisrecruiting.net.
Prior to coming to Bucknell, Myers spent the 2016 season as the head men's tennis coach at Delaware, where he helped the Blue Hens snap a 34-match losing streak and finish the season with three wins in its final six contests. Myers has also served as head women's coach and adjunct physical education professor at Longwood, head men's and women's coach at North Carolina A&T, and director of tennis and head men's and women's coach at Randolph-Macon, which is his alma mater.
A national search will be launched to identify Bucknell's next head men's tennis coach.
