LEWISBURG, Pa. – Seven members of Bucknell's Patriot League Boat of the Year Varsity Eight earned All-Patriot League honors on Thursday. Seniors Natalie Kreusch, Kate Meerscheidt, and Erin Sullivan, along with junior coxswain Juliette Gaggini earned First Team honors, while juniors Elizabeth Berlinger, Caroline Brandt, and Maddie Wickers were all named to the Second Team.
Bucknell's seven All-Patriot League honorees tie the team record. The Bison also had seven in 2010, 2011, and 2012. This was Sullivan's third First Team All-Patriot League citation, and she becomes the fourth Bucknell rower to earn three or more all-conference honors. Amanda Chikowski (2012-15) was a four-time honoree, and Jeweliet Yost (2007-09) and Jillian O'Mara (2010-12) were both three-time all-leaguers. Sullivan might have had a shot at four, but the 2020 Patriot League Championships were canceled due to COVID-19.
Gaggini, Meerscheidt, and Brandt both earned All-Patriot League recognition for the second straight year.
Bucknell's Varsity Eight turned in a remarkable, gold-medal performance at last Friday's championships. After qualifying for the Grand Final with the fifth-fastest preliminary time, the Bison came back and won the final by open water over Boston University and six-time defending champion Navy. Bucknell outrowed the Terriers by more than seven seconds and the Mids by more than nine en route to the third-largest margin of victory in a Varsity Eight final in league history, and the widest since Bucknell's 15-second win over Navy in 2008.
Bucknell captured Patriot League Boat of the Year honors for the first time since 2012. It was the Varsity Eight's first gold medal since that season, and it was the first league win for any Bison boat since the Second Varsity Eight took home gold in 2016.
Bucknell's Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Four both finished third, and Boston University edged the Bison 50-48 to claim the team title.
