Will Greer, Austin Odell, Jacob Corson, Grant Voytovich, Tyler Dunn, and Brendan Lowery Named to the Second Team
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Chris Cannizzaro earned a repeat selection to the Patriot League First Team, headlining seven Bison who earned All-Conference accolades for the 2022 season.
Joining Cannizzaro with postseason accolades were pitchers Austin Odell and Will Greer, first baseman Tyler Dunn, second baseman Brendan Lowery, third baseman Jacob Corson, and right fielder Grant Voytovich. All six Second Team selections were honored for the first time in their careers on Wednesday.
Cannizzaro becomes Bucknell's 18th player in program to be voted to the All-Patriot League First Team twice, and the first since Connor Van Hoose accomplished the feat in the 2017 and 2018 seasons. The senior posted another outstanding season, finishing third in the league in average (.350), fourth in slugging (.552), ninth in on-base percentage (0.414), fourth in doubles (12), and seventh in home runs (5) despite missing seven games earlier this season. A team captain, Cannizzaro also earned the Bucknell athletic department's Bradley N. Tufts Award, as well as being named to the Senior CLASS 30-man shortlist earlier this season.
Greer stepped up remarkably as Bucknell's No.1 pitching option early on in the season, and has continued to excel in that role for Bucknell all through the year, finishing the regular season with a 5-3 record and a 3.88 ERA, which ranks fifth in the Patriot League. Greer threw the second-most innings in the league behind teammate Odell at 45.2 in conference games, and also tied for second with his compatriot for five wins in conference games this season. Greer finished the year with 26 strikeouts in league play, and his 44 overall strikeouts rank eighth in the Patriot League this season.
Odell emerged as a great option for the Bison as a Sunday starter in Bucknell's rotation, finishing the year with a 4.12 ERA overall after bouncing back from an injury early on in his career. The native of Chester Springs, Pa. finished with a 6-2 record overall this season, throwing a career-high eight strikeouts in his penultimate start of the regular season at Holy Cross in earning Patriot League Pitcher of the Week honors. Odell's six wins in conference play ranked second to Luke Rettig of Lehigh.
Dunn has had an excellent rookie season for the Bison as one of only two first-years along with Sean Scanlon of Holy Cross to earn All-League accolades. The native of Boiling Springs, Pa. hit .297 this season while starting 38 games at first base, and hit his first career home run at Radford earlier this season. Dunn's 41 hits rank sixth on the team, and his three triples this season are tied for second in the Patriot League.
Lowery has been one of Bucknell's most improved players this season, expanding on his reliability defensively in the field with an outstanding senior season at the plate. Lowery's ten doubles in conference games this season rank just ahead of Cannizzaro for the most in the league, and the senior has improved remarkably in every offensive category this season while emerging as the full-time starter at second. Lowery finished the regular season with a .270 average, and his three home runs this season are second on the team.
Corson has also brought his game to a new level this season all while adjusting to playing the hot corner after the graduation of the reliable Peter Marren. Corson drove in six RBIs earlier this season against Patriot League Tournament opponent Lehigh, and his .329 average is second on the team and eighth in the Patriot League. Corson is also hitting .341 in conference games this season, and ranks seventh in slugging (.505), eighth in on-base percentage (.429), and eighth in hits (31) in conference games this year.
Voytovich has also had to adjust to a new role in the outfield after spending time at second base last season, and has responded to earning a starting role in that position by leading the Bison with 52 hits this season. The sophomore hit his first career home run against Lehigh in Bethlehem earlier this season, and has found his groove at the plate, ranking seventh in the Patriot League with 34 RBIs and eighth in doubles (11). The native of Mars, Pa. has started all 42 games for the Bison this season, adding 31 runs scored.
The seven members of the All-League squad helped Bucknell secure its first home playoff series in the Patriot League Tournament since 2014, finishing as the No. 2 seed in the regular season with a 14-11 conference record.
