Bison Rowing Team Faces Stiff Competition at Lake Wheeler Invitational

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Bucknell rowing team tested itself against some of the nation's top crews at the Lake Wheeler Invitational on Friday and Saturday, and the Bison came away with some solid times and three wins over Patriot League rivals.
Bucknell competed in a field that included three ranked squads in No. 9 Penn, No. 11 Duke, and No. 15 Syracuse, along with a host of other top squads from the ACC. The Bison Varsity Four and top three Eights were all in action, each racing three times in a 24-hour period.
Bucknell's Varsity Eight defeated Boston College while finishing behind Penn, Miami, Central Florida, and North Carolina in its first heat on Friday. The Bison came back later in the day to beat Patriot League rival Navy by just over one second, while finishing behind Penn, Syracuse, UCF, and Clemson. The V8+ closed out the weekend by posting its fastest time of 6:48.822 in round three on Saturday morning. The Bison trailed Clemson, Oklahoma, Miami, and Georgetown.
The Bison Varsity Four placed in front of Miami by two seconds in its first race, and then on Saturday that unit finished ahead of Patriot League rival Georgetown and Miami while trailing Clemson and Oklahoma. The V4's third-round time of 7:51.97 was its best of the weekend.
The Second Varsity Eight also placed third in a five-team race on Saturday. The Bison beat Oklahoma and Georgetown while finishing behind Clemson and Miami with a weekend-best time of 7:06.261.
The Bison have one more home event next Saturday against Lehigh, Delaware, and Duquesne, with the Patriot League Championships to follow on May 13 on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.
