About Bucknell
- Bucknell is set to compete in its third away meet of the season on Friday and Saturday. The VMI Winter Classic is a large meet, featuring 20 teams and strong competition as Bucknell enters the final weeks of preparation ahead of the 2022 Indoor Patriot League Championships. It's Bucknell's first time participating at the event.
- Bucknell took last weekend off after competing in both the Bison Open and Multis and the Sykes & Sabock Invite two weeks ago. Bucknell hosts one more meet, the Bucknell Tune up, next weekend before hosting the championships on Feb. 26 and 27.
- The Bison earned several top finishes in their most recent weekend of competition, and rookie Brian Scotto entered Bucknell's all-time top 10 list with a win in the 60m hurdles. Scotto moved from seventh to fifth in the record books with a time of 8.21.
- Also at the Bison Open & Multis, rookie Peter Sorensen won the 5000 (15:27.47), Ethan Wolford-Tuffy won the 400 (49.60), and Bucknell's distance medley relay team grabbed a first-place finish (10:17.26).
- The Bison also posted a few strong finishes at the Penn State meet, including a 1:53.03 in the 800 by rookie Colby Belczyk. Belczyk's time ranks just outside Bucknell's all-time top 10. Sophomore Alex Simpson also earned an IC4A qualifier in the event with a 1:54.33.
- Other personal bests last weekend included Samuel Whittaker in the mile (4:16.15), Brendan O'Toole in the 3000 (8:30.83) and Robert Feeney in weight throw (56-11.25).
- Sophomore Rayven Sample is coming off an impressive showing in the 800, placing second at the home meet with a 1:57.69, and senior Brett Zatlin took second in the 500 with a personal-best 1:09.87.
Coach Donner's Take
"This is a very big weekend for our program, and the athletes are very excited. We have never attended this meet, and it will be fun to compete against programs that we traditionally do not see much. I have heard nothing but good things about the facility. Traditionally, the second week of February is when our marks start to improve drastically, and coming off a weekend off, the athletes are rested, hungry and ready. It's also the first true regular season overnight road trip in two years, which is very exciting for our athletes."
