Bucknell Wrestling Downs Sacred Heart, 33-6

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Bucknell wrestling team picked up its first dual victory of the season with a dominant performance over Sacred Heart (0-6, 0-2 EIWA) Friday evening at the Pitt Center. Bucknell (1-1, 1-0 EIWA) won eight of 10 bouts and captured bonus points in four of them, including each of the final three to separate 33-6 over the Pioneers.
Sacred Heart led just once at 3-0 following a win at 125 pounds and had the match tied at 6-6, but the Bison won each of the final six bouts to improve to 10-0 all-time against the Pioneers.
Nick Delp's (157) pin of Sacred Heart's Joe Siemsen began the 27-0 Bucknell run and was one of two falls for the Bison on the night. Logan Deacetis (184), Nolan Springer (197) and Logan Shephard (285) also supplied bonus points.
No. 32 Kurt Phipps (133) was the first to get the Bison on the board with a 5-2 decision over Andrew Fallon, which was powered by two early first-period takedowns and evened the match at 3-3. He was followed by fellow ranked teammate No. 25 Darren Miller (141), who secured a 2-0 decision over Sacred Heart's Seth Brown with help from riding time to give the Bison a 6-3 lead.
The Pioneers only managed to tie things up with a come-from-behind effort from Matt Laurie (157), who erased Kolby DePron's 5-2 advantage in the final seconds to claim a 6-5 decision with a takedown at the horn.
Delp's pin at 157 gave the Bison their largest lead to that point at 12-6, and he was followed by wins from Chase Barlow (165) and Sam Barnes (174) to make it an 18-6 Bucknell lead.
Deacetis added an 11-3 major decision, Springer posted his third fall of the season at 197, and Logan Shephard rounded out the evening with his first collegiate tech fall (24-6).
Bucknell remains on the road this weekend for a tri-dual with Buffalo and Edinboro in Buffalo, N.Y. on Sunday, Dec. 18.
