Samuel Whittaker Places 23rd
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Bucknell University men's cross country team, led by a solid 23rd-place and All-Region showing from senior Samuel Whittaker, placed 12th at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships on Friday morning.
Results
Whittaker (30:39.5) improved from a 32nd-place showing a season ago in Bethlehem, putting a bow on a stellar senior season for the native of Salem, Conn on the 10K course in a field of 181 runners.
"It was great to see Whittaker rebound after a rough league meet and make All-Region," said head coach Kevin Donner. " He beat all of the Navy guys. The team was solid, although I do believe we could have scored about 60 less points. The guys probably went out a bit too conservative, and they moved up nicely throughout the race. In a meet like this, however, with lots of soggy ground and very good runners, lots of the better runners just will not come back. Lynam made up a lot of places, and was our solid number two. With that said, we finished right around our ranking."
Next up for the Bison was sophomore Bobby Lynam (63rd, 31:39.4), competing in his first Mid-Atlantic Regional Meet.
Lynam was joined by teammates Henry Didden (106th, 32:24.4), Noah Martin (108th, 32:27.2), and Ben Santos (110th, 32:27.8) as scoring runners on the day for Bucknell. Martin finished an identical 108th from his last Mid-Atlantic Regional in Bethlehem last season, although he improved upon his 10K mark by over one minute at Penn State on Friday.
Also competing for the Bison on the day was Grayson Crockett (115th, 32:37.8) and Domenic Campagna (124th, 32:54.4).
Villanova (36) won the meet, boasting individual champion Liam Murphy (29:52.6).
The Wildcats had the first, fourth, eighth, 11th, and 12th-placed runners serve as scorers on Friday. Villanova was followed by Georgetown (58), Princeton (73) La Salle (116), and Pitt (127) in the top five. Bucknell was the second-highest finisher among Patriot League schools, with league champion Navy (7th, 212) placing ahead of the Bison. Lehigh (16th, 463), American (19th, 532) Loyola (Md.) (20th, 551), and Lafayette (22nd, 610) also competed from the Patriot League.
