Three Bison Wrestlers Recognized in National Preseason Rankings

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Three members of the Bucknell wrestling team were among those appearing in the preseason InterMat, FloWrestling and WrestleStat national rankings. Junior Nick Delp (157) was named to all three lists, coming in at No. 31 on both InterMat and WrestleStat and earning an honorable mention for FloWrestling.
Senior Darren Miller (141) appeared on two preseason lists, ranking No. 29 on InterMat and receiving honorable mention status with FloWrestling, and junior Kurt Phipps (133) made an appearance at No. 33 on InterMat's preseason list.
Delp is one of six returning EIWA placewinners, finishing seventh in the 157-pound weight class at the 2022 championships with a 3-2 ledger. He posted a 16-13 overall record with three pins and one major decision, going 11-7 (6-4 EIWA) in duals. Delp also went 2-5 against nationally ranked opponents, including 1-1 against top-20 foes, and was one of four Bison to start all 18 duals.
Miller, who made the jump to the 141-pound weight class last year, took fifth in the EIWA Championships in 2022 and third at 133 pounds in 2021. He earned an automatic bid to the NCAAs as a sophomore. As a junior, he posted a 16-5 record with six major decisions and two technical falls, going 8-3 (5-1 EIWA) in dual action.
Phipps dropped down to 133 pounds prior to his sophomore campaign and went 20-11 with six major decisions, two pins and one technical fall in 2021-22. He placed seventh at the EIWA Championships after going 9-1 in EIWA duals. Phipps also led the Bison in major decisions last season.
Bucknell opens its 2022-23 season at home against Oklahoma State in Sojka Pavilion on Saturday, Nov. 12. Ticket packages, which include admission to the Bucknell men's basketball game taking place prior to the dual, are on sale now at the Bucknell box office.
