REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – Led by a 2-over-par 74 from Paige Richter, the Bucknell women's golf team counted three scores of 76 or better in a strong final round at Delaware's Lady Blue Hen Invitational at Rehoboth Beach Country Club.
The Bison posted a 310 team score, their best of the weekend in the 54-hole tournament, and finished in 12th place with a 953 total.
Tara Thomas got out to a dream start on Sunday with birdies on four of her first six holes to move to 3-under on the day. She gave a few shots back later in her round and finished with a 76. Thomas was Bucknell's low player for the week with a 54-hole total of 229 (76-77-76), which put her in a tie for 27th place.
Kelsey Yi also shot 76 with 14 pars and four bogeys. Bucknell also counted an 84 from Erin Drahnak.
Dartmouth won the tournament with an 880 composite. Runner-up Harvard, the 37th-ranked team in the nation in the Golfweek rankings, was 11 shots back. Delaware (897), Penn (897), and Seton Hall (904) rounded out the top five.
Sophie Thai of Dartmouth finished off a wire-to-wire victory with her second 3-under 69 of the weekend. She finished at 6-under 210 for the tournament. Navy's Bridget Hoang at 1-under was the only other player in the field to finish under par.
Bucknell's fall campaign is now complete. It was a strong season for the Bison, who averaged 311.3 as a team, an eight-stroke improvement over last fall and just over a shot off the team record of 310.1. The team won their home tournament thanks to a school-record round, and it posted best-ever rounds at both Kingsmill and Navy.
The Bison will next be in action on Feb. 5-7 at Lipscomb's tournament at Bay Point GC in Panama City, Fla.
