About the Bison
- Bucknell concludes the 2022 fall season this weekend at Delaware's tournament at Rehoboth Beach Country Club.
- This is Bucknell's fifth tournament of the fall and the first since finishing T-11th at the Navy Fall Invitational on Oct. 1-2. Prior to that, the Bison won their own home tournament behind a record-setting weekend from Tara Thomas.
- The Bison opened with a solid 311 team score at Navy, led by 77s from Thomas and Cristina Canales, but they struggled to a 335 in tough weather conditions in the final round and slipped from fifth place to T-11th. Freshman Paige Richter provided the final-round highlights with a 4-over 76, which was the fifth-best round in the 88-player field. After playing her first four holes of the day in 4-over, Richter was even the rest of the way, including a stretch of three straight birdies at holes 18, 1, and 2. After opening with a 79 on Saturday, Richter moved up 13 places to finish in a tie for 16th. Â
- Richter, Thomas, Kelsey Yi, Sahana Paravantavida, and Erin Drahnak will be in the lineup this week at Rehoboth Beach. Morgan Sohosky will also be on the course playing as an individual.
- Bucknell enjoyed a banner weekend at its home tournament. The Bison won their annual fall invitational by 15 shots, with Thomas claiming medalist honors with a record-setting performance.
- Bucknell tied the school record with a 296 team score in the second round, and the 905 total was the second-best 54-hole score in team history. The Bison missed the record by two shots, as the 54-hole mark remains 903 at the 2010 Bucknell Invitational.
- Thomas tied the school record with a 69 in the second round and then followed it up with a 70 on Sunday, highlighted by a hole-in-one at No. 16. Thomas shot 216 over 54 holes – a new school record by five shots – and ran away with a nine-stroke victory over runner-up Jennifer Sorkin of Mount St. Mary's. Thomas became the first Bison ever to post two rounds of even-par or better in the same tournament.
- Thomas, who became the seventh Bison to win the Bucknell Invitational, was named the Patriot League Player of the Week and the Bison of the Week.
- Through four tournaments, Bucknell has averaged 309.5 as a team thus far. That is a 10-shot improvement over the fall 2021 team average of 319.4, and it sits under the school record of 310.1, set in 2019. Â
- Richter is off to a strong start to her rookie season with all 11 rounds in the 70s so far, including a 73 in her first collegiate round at Kingsmill.
- Thomas and Richter will be battling for the team's low scoring average for the fall season. Through 11 rounds, both have taken exactly 840 strokes for a 76.4 average. Kelsey and Kayla Yi are next with 78.3 averages.
- This is the 25th season for the Bison women's golf program, which debuted in 1998-99. Laura Tyler-Cook is the fourth head coach in team history, following Brad Tufts, Kevin Jamieson, and Lisa Francisco. Â
- This will be Bucknell's fourth appearance at Delaware's fall tournament, with the others coming in 2017, 2018, and 2021.
- Bucknell finished in 12th place here last fall, with Sahana Paravantavida providing the highlight of the weekend with a final-round 74. Her 2-over total was the best of her career in relation to par and was the third-best score in the field that day.
- The Bison posted rounds of 323-332-321 last season.
- Princeton won last year's event by 11 shots over runner-up Harvard. Princeton's Tiffany Kong was the medalist at 5-over 221, one shot better than teammate Yanjun Liu.
- Bucknell has six events on tap in the spring, starting with Lipscomb's tournament in Panama Beach, Fla., on Feb. 5-7 and culminating with the Patriot League Championships at Independence GC in Virginia on Apr. 21-23.
