Army Scores Final Four Goals in 4-1 Win over Bison Men’s Soccer

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Mo Tall gave Bucknell an early lead from the penalty spot, but Army West Point scored the final four goals of the night to turn back the 10-man Bison 4-1 in Patriot League men's soccer action on Friday night at Malek Stadium at Clinton Field.
The Black Knights (7-3-3, 4-1-1 PL) moved to the top of the Patriot League table, three points ahead of American, with the four remaining weekend games coming up on Saturday.
Bucknell (2-11, 1-5 PL) got on the board first just past the quarter-hour mark. Army was penalized for a hand ball on Tall's free kick, and then the Bison senior stepped up and buried his penalty kick inside the left post for his third goal of the season.
Army equalized in the 39th minute on a corner kick that lingered in front of goal and was poked home by Nick Atkinson.
The Bison had a couple of good chances late in the first half, but Thomas Hut made saves on Jackson Sullivan and Charlie Holmes, and Zane Domsohn just missed the right post in about 45 seconds remaining.
The Bison went to the locker room all tied at 1-1, but five minutes into the second half the game changed when captain MJ Kuczura was shown a red card after a hard challenge. About 15 minutes later, Army took the lead when Sam Epitime's lofted service into the box was grazed in by Dylan Mitchiner.
In the 77th minute, Atkinson scored his second of the night when he headed home Cooper Warren's corner kick, and then in the 83rd, it went to 4-1 on Joey Hickson's shot from the top of the 18 that went off the crossbar and down. That gave the Black Knights four goals against the Bison for the first time since a 4-2 overtime verdict in the 1993 Patriot League championship game.
Army finished with a 23-5 shot advantage, including a 13-1 edge after Bucknell went down to 10 men. Freddie Lapworth finished with four saves for the Bison, while Hut tallied three.
Bucknell has another tough road test on Tuesday at fifth-ranked Syracuse.
