Owen, Mueller Go 2-0 in Singles on First Day of Bloomsburg Invitational

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Michael Owen and Nick Mueller both went 2-0 in singles and advanced to flight finals as play got underway Saturday at the Bloomsburg Invitational.
Owen started the day with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kiran Richards of Mercyhurst, and then he topped Zach Pernia of Millersville by the same margin. Owen will face Morgan State's Nihit Rawal in Sunday's final.
In the same flight, Zelikovsky opened with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Lino Morin of Millersville. He then fell to Rawal 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 in a tightly contested semifinal match.
Mueller opened with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Millersville's Frank Yanni, then he claimed a third-set tiebreaker to outlast Mercyhurst's David Akinpetide. Mueller, who is now 5-0 on the young season, will play Niles Rachal of Morgan State in his final on Sunday.
One round of doubles was played on Saturday, and Owen and Zelikovsky won their first match, 6-3 over Morris Haab and Hristo Plasheski of Mercyhurst. They will play Pernia and Dylan Tull in a semifinal match on Sunday.
