LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell volleyball head coach Tyler Hagstrom announced on Tuesday the addition of Jeremy Young to the coaching staff. Young is the second assistant coach added to Hagstrom's staff this summer along with Erin Kretzschmar.
Young has spent the past three years coaching collegiately, making stops at both Southern Utah and North Carolina. Before entering the collegiate coaching ranks, Young worked as a middle school and high school guidance counselor.
"I'm excited Jeremy will be joining us here at Bucknell. He has a great understanding of the game and will add a breadth of experience to our staff. His background in counseling will also help create a positive experience for our student-athletes," said Hagstrom.
Most recently, Young spent the 2019 and 2020-21 seasons as an assistant coach at Southern Utah. In the role, Young focused on coaching ball control and implementation/execution of team defense. He also oversaw team travel, meals and utilization of technology. The Thunderbirds put together a winning record last season, including an 8-6 Big Sky Conference mark and an 8-1 home record. They captured a 3-2 win over Montana State in the first round of the Big Sky Tournament.
Young served as a volunteer assistant coach with the Tar Heels during the 2018 season, contributing to all aspects of teaching and training. He also assisted with recruiting functions and player evaluation.
Young spent seven years coaching for Triangle Volleyball Club in Morrisville, N.C., working with age groups 13-16. He coached athletes that committed to a host of Power Five schools across the country and served as assistant director for the club from 2017 to 2018, overseeing uniforms, social media, athlete wellness and safety, and travel coordination.
Outside of coaching, Young spent three years at Cary High School and four at Guy B. Phillips Middle School as a school counselor, providing academic, personal/social and career guidance.
Young began his professional career as a writer for the External Affairs office at his alma mater, Hillsdale College. He earned his bachelor's degree in history and religion from Hillsdale in 2004 and later a master's degree in education from North Carolina in 2010.
