Bucknell Football Announces Coaching Staff Changes
5/19/2021 11:15:00 AM | Football
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell head football coach Dave Cecchini announced Wednesday the addition of Colin Schaeffer to his staff.
Kevin Bracken was also elevated to run game coordinator. Bracken, who will now work with the Bison linebackers, previously served as defensive line coach during the 2019 and 2021 spring seasons. Schaeffer will be charged with mentoring Bucknell's defensive linemen.
"I'm excited about our defensive staff addition and changes," said defensive coordinator Isaac Collins. "Coach Schaeffer is an outstanding teacher with a tremendous work ethic, and our young and talented defensive linemen will truly benefit from working with him. Coach Bracken is a bright, up-and-coming defensive coach. He will bring great energy to our linebacker core that is looking to build on the legacy left behind by a special senior class. I look forward to seeing how Coach Bracken develops this group and continues the tradition of great linebacker play at Bucknell."
Schaeffer joins the Bison from SUNY Cortland, where he spent the previous two seasons. The Dragons, who had their 2020 campaign canceled due to the COVID-19 public health threat, went 8-3 (5-1 Empire 8) in 2019. Two of Schaeffer's linebackers captured All-Empire 8 accolades following that season.
Before his time at SUNY Cortland, Schaeffer served as a defensive line and defensive quality control coach at Seton Hill University in 2018 and as an outside linebackers coach at Muhlenberg College in 2016 and 2017. The Mules went a combined 17-5 (14-4 Centennial Conference) during his time with the program, earning a spot in the 2016 Centennial-MAC Bowl Series and the 2017 ECAC Football Fest.
Muhlenberg, which won the 2017 ECAC Asa S. Bushnell Bowl, ranked 12th nationally in rush defense that campaign. Schaeffer mentored three All-Centennial Conference and one D3Football.com All-South Region linebackers while a member of the Mule coaching staff.
Schaeffer broke into the collegiate coaching ranks as a volunteer linebacker coach at his alma mater, Juniata College. An inside linebacker for the Eagle football team, he graduated in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in management and a minor in English.
