LEWISBURG, Pa. – Chris Cannizzaro of the Bucknell baseball team has been named the Bison Athlete of the Week after an impressive offensive week for the Orange and Blue.
Cannizzaro posted one of his most impressive offensive weeks during Bucknell's four-game week, hitting .500 (8-for-16) with four runs scored, three doubles, and five RBIs.
The junior from Staten Island, N.Y. started the week with three hits in Bucknell's narrow defeat to Saint Joseph's on Wednesday, adding a run scored and an RBI.
Cannizzaro added two more RBIs in game two against Lafayette, before setting a career high in hits with four in Bucknell's 13-8 win in the season finale over the Leopards. In the win, Cannizzaro plated Logan Kellerman on a sac fly for his only non-hit of the game for the go-ahead run.
Cannizzaro enjoyed a tremendous junior season, finishing the year with a .355 average, which currently ranks second in the Patriot League behind Friedrick Ross of Army. Additionally, Cannizzaro ranks first in the Patriot League in slugging (.565), third in hits (44), first in doubles (12), and is in a tie for first in triples (4).
A key member of the outfield, Cannizzaro played and started all but one game for the Bison this season, and also earned Patriot League Player of the Week honors on March 30 after a four-game week where he hit .646 with eight runs, six RBIs, and six doubles.
