BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Bucknell University men's track and field team finished second at the Happy Easter Races hosted by Lehigh University on Saturday afternoon.
Results
The Bison (123) finished a close second to Binghamton (131). Wagner (110.5), Lehigh (101.5), Shippensburg (91), and Lafayette (24) rounded out the meet.
"Although we were not too concerned about scoring the meet, we did finish a close second to Binghamton, and could have won," said Head Coach Kevin Donner. "I felt we left a lot of points out there in a number of events. We are getting closer to starting to identify who our league lineup will be, but traditionally, our two back-to-back home meets really determines the team. We should see a lot of our marks improve tremendously. Today was a cold morning, and once we get to better track and field weather, we will see some very good stuff from the Bison."
The Bison earned several event victories, including a win from Alex Dessoye in the 400 (49.28). A. Dessoye was one of three Bucknell runners who scored in the event along with Robert Dessoye (51.16) and Rayven Sample (51.26).
Connor McMenamin, who has been the Patriot League runner up in the past two outdoor meets, won the steeplechase in his season debut in the event (9:14.17), outpacing Binghamton's Marty Dolan (9:25.62) in earning the victory.
Jordan Montero (190-5) won the javelin for the third straight meet to open the season, while James Kelly (178-5) finished second after throwing a personal best last week in Lewisburg.
Nicholas Marino (14-9) earned a runner-up finish in the pole vault, while Miguel Negrete (13-9.25) was fourth.
First year Matthew Perello placed fifth in the 100 (11.10) and second in the 200 (22.66) for the Bison on Saturday in scoring in each event.
Tommy Cahill (21-10.75) placed third in the long jump, while Brendan Bodisch also posted the same mark in finishing one spot behind. Bodisch also placed fourth in the 400 hurdles (55.41). Brendan O'Toole (3:57.43) placed fifth in the 1500 while Jack Memoli (15.80) was fourth in the 100 hurdles.
Bucknell will return to action on Sunday, Aprill 11 when it hosts Lehigh and Army at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
