LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's swimming & diving team downed Loyola, 188-112, on Saturday at Kinney Natatorium.
Powered by 11 individual victories, and one relay win, the Bison completed a 3-0 (3-0 PL) dual-meet season. Maddie Hartigan was sensational for Bucknell, winning the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle and anchoring the first-place 400 freestyle relay team.
Beyond Hartigan, first year Kate Gottwald swept the diving events for the third-straight meet. Alexis Faria also touched the wall first in both butterfly races while Maggie Wyngowski won the 200 backstroke and the 400 IM and went second in the 100 breaststroke.Â
Catherine Craig (200 breaststroke) and Sabrina Vumbacco (1,000 freestyle) were the Bison's other individual victors, with Vumbacco adding a runner-up showing in the 400 IM. Bucknell went 1-2-3 in the 1,000 freestyle and 400 IM.Â
Naomi Douek took second to Gottwald on both boards while Kayla Lichtner went second in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.
Dating back to the 2018-19 campaign, the Bison have posted an incredible 21-2 (16-2 PL) record in dual meets; both of Bucknell's losses came to reigning Patriot League champion Navy. In 2019-20, the Bison went 10-1 (7-1 PL). With its rivalry win over Lehigh, Bucknell reached the double digits in victories during a single season for the sixth time in program history.
With the cancelation of the Patriot League Swimming & Diving Championships, the Bison next close their season by hosting American and Loyola (Md.) for a Patriot League Challenge Meet on Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25. Every session will be aired on ESPN+.
