ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Bucknell swimming & diving teams competed at a quad meet at Lejune Hall on Saturday.
Both the Bison men and women defeated American (242-56 men, 229-68 women) and Lafayette (226.5-71.5, 235-64 women) while falling to host Navy (119-170 men, 134-157 women) to move to 5-1 (4-1 PL) on the season. The women's loss to the Mids snapped their 11-meet winning streak; since the 2019-20 campaign, they have racked up an impressive 26 victories while suffering only three losses, all to Navy.
Abby Doss (200 breaststroke), John Gehrig (200 butterfly) and Chris Kopac (1,000 freestyle) each logged a program top-10 time.
Doss was one of five Bucknell women to win an individual event, joining Naomi Douek, Maddie Hartigan, Skye Sunderhauf and Sabrina Vumbacco. Doss outraced three Navy swimmers en route to her victory in the 200 breaststroke while Sunderhauf's first-place finish in the 200 IM was the first of her collegiate career.
On the men's side, Gehrig was joined in the winner's circle by Will Cadwallader, Chris Fabian, Leo Kuyl and Liam Pitt. Kuyl's victory in the 50 freestyle was especially impressive; he bested four Navy swimmers, including the second-place finisher by .15 of a second.
The Bison women stretched their winning streak over the Eagles to 15 dual meets. The Bucknell men now boast a winning streak of 26 over the Leopards and one of 14 over American.
The Bison next host the Bucknell Invitational from Friday, Nov. 19 through Sunday, Nov. 21. Prelims start at 10 a.m. each day, with the finals following at 6 p.m.
