TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Ashlyn Ramos finished 168th overall (20:54.5) at the NCAA Championships on Saturday morning at Florida State, capping off a decorated career that saw the senior become the first Bison in program history to qualify twice for the competition individually.
"Ashlyn was moving up nicely through the first 4000m to put herself in position to be in the top 100, which was our goal," said Head Coach Kevin Donner. "The pace was very fast, and she seemed to hit a wall and the last 1000 meters was a struggle for her. Even though she may not have hit her goal, the last two cross country seasons have been about as good as anyone in the history of our program. Women's distance running in the United States and the collegiate level is at an all-time high, and with so many fifth and even sixth year super seniors added in, the competition is fierce and it will remain fierce over the next two years."
Ramos started brightly, moving up to as high as 118th after the first 2000m, and 101st after the first 3000m. The senior has had an incredible career for the Orange and Blue, earning First Team All-Patriot League honors three times. The native of Sammamish, Wash. won the Patriot League individual title in the spring, and finished runner-up at the Patriot League Championships this fall.
Whittni Orton of BYU won the individual title (19:25.4), followed by Mercy Chelangat of Alabama (19:29.3). NC State claimed the team title with 84 points to finish ahead of defending champion BYU (122).
Ramos still has a season on the track ahead of her for the Orange and Blue, where she has also excelled. At the 2021 Outdoor Championships, Ramos claimed the 10,000m crown, and also finished runner-up in the 5,000. The Bucknell track and field team will get its season going on December 3 when it hosts the Bison Opener.
