LEWISBURG, Pa. – Senior Ashlyn Ramos of the Bucknell women's cross country team has qualified for the NCAA Championships by virtue of an at-large bid by the NCAA, the organization announced on Saturday.
Ramos, who finished 10th at the Mid-Atlantic Regional meet, had to wait an extra day to find out her fate, which depended on the inclusion of Villanova as an at-large team to the competition. The final qualifying teams were announced earlier this evening, with Ramos one of four competitors announced who made the meet after Villanova qualified along with Sammi Ragenklint of Monmouth, Fiona Max of Princeton, and Michelle Joyce of Temple.
The senior continues her impressive cross country career, and becomes the first Bucknell runner to qualify for the NCAA women's cross country meet twice individually. Theresa Dennis '03, who was inducted into the Bucknell Hall of Fame just a few weeks ago as a member of the class of 2020, has also qualified twice. Dennis was a member of the 1999 Bucknell team that qualified as a unit, before making her way back to the biggest stage two years later in 2001, finishing 73rd. Dennis' 73rd-place finish remains the highest finish by a Bucknell student-athlete at the NCAA Championships.
A three-time First Team All-Patriot League honoree, Ramos now looks ahead to the NCAA Championships set for Saturday, November 20 in Tallahassee, Fla. Ramos visited the course earlier this season when the Bison competed at the FSU Invite, finishing ninth in a field of 194 runners. The senior will look to improve upon her 141st-place showing in the spring at the NCAA Championships in Stillwater, Okla., which was the highest finish by a Bison at the meet since Leanna Nastase in 2006. Live Results for the race will be available here, and the race will be streamed live on ESPNU.
