Brendan Mellitt Posts Top Individual Finish for Bucknell
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Brendan Mellitt earned Bucknell's top finish on Sunday afternoon at the Patriot League Championships, placing 22nd overall in the field of 111 (25:52.9) as the Bucknell men finished sixth overall (140).
Results
Navy won the meet with 20 points, earning the win in dominating fashion after capturing places 2-7 despite Army's Marshall Beatty capturing his second-consecutive individual title (24:42.2). The Black Knights finished second with 55 points, followed by Boston University (80), Lafayette (134), Lehigh (139), Bucknell (140), Loyola (Md.) (183), American (236), Holy Cross (270), and Colgate (315).
"We were only six points from finishing fourth, and that is a tough pill to swallow for our guys," said Head Coach Kevin Donner. We had a huge shake up with the order of our top seven, and that is never a good thing this time of the year. Our depth was very good, but our front runners struggled for some reaseon. We have to get back on the horse now, and get ready for the regional meet on November 12 back here at Lehigh."
Mellitt, who won the individual title at the Father Bede Invite earlier this year, posted a strong showing in his sophomore season, improving ten places from his 32nd-place outing in the spring.
Owen Chase was next up for the Bison, placing 27th overall (25:55.6) after finishing 26th in the spring. Noah Martin was close behind Chase in 31st (26:01.1) two weeks after winning the Leopard Invite. The finish for Martin marks an improvement of 17 places from his last PL Championship outing at Colgate in 2019, where he placed 48th.
Michael Donnelly and Ryan Miele rounded out Bucknell's scoring runners by finishing 34th and 36th, respectively. Donnelly made his championship debut on Sunday, while Miele competed at the Patriot League Championships for the first time since 2018, improving markedly from his 71st-place finish in Lewisburg that year.
Brendan O'Toole (38th, 26:12.2), Domenic Campagna (42nd (26:15.1), Stephen Schousen (43rd, 26:19.5), Bobby Lynam (44th, 26:21.2), Samuel Whittaker (48th, 26:24.0), Ben Santos (55th, 26:40.4), Harry Marson (56th, 26:41.7) all competed for the Bison on the day.
Bucknell returns to action on Friday, November 12 for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships also hosted by Lehigh.
