Avi Toomer Named to Patriot League All-Tournament Team

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Patriot League Men's Basketball Tournament wrapped up on Wednesday night with third-seeded Boston University defeating top-seeded Colgate 64-61 at Cotterell Court. After the game, Bucknell senior Avi Toomer was voted on to the five-man All-Tournament Team.
Toomer was magnificent in Bucknell's three postseason games, as he helped lead the seventh-seeded Bison all the way to the semifinals, where they were edged by three points by Boston University. Toomer played one of the best games of his career against the Terriers. He scored a career-high 23 points, including 18 in the second half as Bucknell took the game right down to the final possession after trailing by as many as 17 points. Toomer hit a career-high five 3-pointers in the game.Â
Earlier in the tournament, Toomer helped Bucknell avoid an upset bid at the hands of 10th-seeded Holy Cross in the first round. After the Crusaders had closed within two points in the final minute, Toomer canned a big 3-pointer that pushed the margin back to five with 29 seconds to play. The Bison came up with a steal at the other end and held on to win 65-62.Â
In the quarterfinals, Bucknell knocked out second-seeded American 64-59. Toomer scored 18 points in the victory, including a go-ahead 3-point play with 2:29 left and the clinching free throws with 9.9 seconds left..
All told, Toomer averaged 17.0 points while shooting 58.6 FG%, 50.0 3FG% (9-18) and 88.9 FT% in the three Patriot League Tournament games. He was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Boston University's Max Mahoney (MVP) and Javante McCoy, and Colgate's Jordan Burns and Rapolas Ivanauskas.
Toomer finished his senior season second on the team in scoring with a career-best 11.3 points per game. He shot 40.1% from 3-point range, the fourth-best mark in the Patriot League. Â
