LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior Kali Hyham of the Bucknell women's water polo team has been named the CWPA Divison I Player of the Week, the League Office announced on Tuesday.
Hyham enjoyed a career weekend at the Mercyhurst Invite on Saturday and Sunday, scoring career-highs in goals in three consecutive games. To start the Mercyhurst Invite in a 14-6 win over Gannon, Hyham notched five goals, tying her previous career-high. The native of Garden Grove, California then bested her previous output by one goal with a six-goal feat in an 18-14 shootout against Mercyhurst. Hyham becomes the second Bison to earn a CWPA Weekly Award this season after Ally Furano won the award during the opening week of the season.
On Sunday, Hyham scored seven goals, one shy of the school record set by Ally Furano earlier this year, in a 15-7 win over McKendree. In the finale of the tournament for the Bison, Hyham scored five goals, including the eventual game-winning goal in an 11-10 win over Salem. In total, Hyham scored 25 goals, and added six ejections drawn. The 4-0 weekend helped Bucknell to its best start through 11 games in school history at 11-1. Hyham's 137 career goals ranks 16th in Bucknell history, and she also ranks 11th on Bucknell's all-time list in ejections drawn with 124.
Bucknell will have this coming weekend off from competition before returning to action at the Michigan Invite on Feb. 29-March 1 at the Michigan Invite.
