LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell softball freshman Chase Knapp has been named Patriot League Rookie of the Week, as announced by the League office on Tuesday. Knapp led the Bison with seven RBIs during the team's opening weekend at the Upstate Classic and was a key contributor to Bucknell's two victories.
Knapp, a Newbury Calif. native who started all four games at shortstop for the Bison over the weekend, was one of three Patriot League players to rack up seven RBIs in the first weekend of softball. She collected three of those on her first collegiate hit, a 3-run homer to left center that gave Bucknell a 7-0 lead against Towson. Knapp went on to finish that game with two runs scored and a walk.
In her second game, Knapp went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, an RBI, two stolen bases, and another run scored. She'd go on to add hits in both of Saturday's games, including a 2-RBI single to right field that knocked in both of Bucknell's runs against USC Upstate. Knapp put together a strong opening day in the field as well.
Senior pitcher Raeanne Geffert was an honorable mention for Pitcher of the Week, going 2-1 in the circle with 23 strikeouts in 16.1 innings pitched. Geffert walked no batters over the weekend.
Bucknell heads to Buies Creek, N.C. this weekend to participate in the Campbell Invitational. The Bison will face Howard, Campbell, Mount St. Mary's, and Saint Francis over the three-day invitational.
