Swim & Dive Competes at Navy Invite

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Bucknell swimming & diving teams excelled at the Navy Invite, their final meet before the Patriot League Championships, on Saturday at Lejune Hall.
The Bison men and women combined to win eight individual events and two relays. Freshman Sabrina Vumbacco was the standout performer; she won the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 16:38.65 good for third in school history; her 1,000 split time of 10:03.41 gave her the second spot. In addition, she touched the wall first in the 200 freestyle at the Navy Invite.
Maddie Hartigan, normally a freestyler, swam the butterfly and swept both races; her time of 2:04.49 in the 200 was good for eighth in the Bucknell history book. She was also a member of both of the Bison's first-place relay teams: the 200 freestyle and the 200 medley squads.
Emily Gorham (50 freestyle), Nick Haddad (200 backstroke), Matt McGoey (100 freestyle) and Megan Phelan (200 backstroke) were Bucknell's other event winners.
The Navy Invite was unscored. Delaware, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh, Navy and Shippensburg were the other teams in attendance.
After enjoying two weekends off, the Bison next compete at the Patriot League Championships on Feb. 19-22 at Navy's Lejeune Hall.

200 butterfly – Maddie Hartigan (2:04.49) – 8th in school history
200 backstroke – Megan Phelan (2:06.64)
200 freestyle – Sabrina Vumbacco (1:52.52)
1,650 freestyle – Sabrina Vumbacco (16:38.65) – 3rd in school history (1,000 split time of 10:03.41 2nd in school history)
200 freestyle relay - Maggie Wyngowski, Emily Gorham, Megan Koczur, Rachel Hazard (1:36.92)
200 medley relay – Megan Koczur, Maggie Wyngowski, Rachel Hazard, Emily Gorham (1:48.68)
