Swim & Dive Begins PL Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Bucknell swimming & diving teams began competition at the Patriot League Championships on Wednesday evening at Navy's Lejeune Hall.
Through the first day, the Bison women are in second place with 86 points, one more than Army West Point and Boston University. The Bison men are in fifth place with 56 points, two shy of fourth-place Lehigh and eight back of third-place Loyola. Navy is the men's (80) and women's (120) leader.
The women's 800 freestyle relay team of Maddie Hartigan, Emily Gorham, Sophia Donati and Abby Merriman captured a bronze medal; the quartet's time of 7:19.76 was also good for second in school history. The men's 800 freestyle relay squad of Christian Stef, Matt McGoey, Sean Quinn and Mitch Gavars placed fourth with a time of 6:36.46 good for third in the Bucknell annals.
In the women's 3-meter dive, Paige Schoelkopf, Alaina Schumann and Naomi Douek all scored. Schoelkopf and Schumann qualified for the 'A' finals, finishing sixth and eighth respectively.
Stef led off the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 1:38.76, slotting him sixth in school history.
Both of the Bison's 200 medley relay teams finished sixth. The men's team of Jack Rose, Ryaan Hatoum, Jacob Lubinski and Leo Kuyl clocked Bucknell's fourth-fastest time (1:30.18) while the women's squad of Emma Hadley, Catherine Craig, Alexis Faria and Donati logged Bucknell's sixth-fastest time (1:43.02).
The Bison continue their time at the Patriot League Championships tomorrow. The preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. with the finals following at 6 p.m.
