LEWISBURG, Pa. – Many exciting promotions surround the Bucknell football team's home opener on Saturday, Sept. 14.
Kickoff between the Bison and No. 23/22 Villanova Wildcats is set for 6 p.m. at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. Highlighting the game's packed promotional schedule are post-game fireworks, presented by Weis Markets and Silvertip Inc. The first 1,000 fans through the stadium gates will receive a stainless steel Bucknell water bottle, presented by Geisinger.
For its First Responder & Hero Appreciation Game, Bucknell will offer free admission to military veterans, active duty servicemen and women, Gold Star Families and first responders. Fans will be treated to a rock climbing wall and a touch-a-truck event, which will feature firetrucks, humvees and other military vehicles, on the football practice field.
The team will also wear decals on their helmets to recognize the sacrifices made by Gold Star families; in addition, Bison players and coaches will wear baseball hats recognizing fallen local heroes during the pre-game Bison Stampede through Christy's Gates and the tailgate area. A limited number of the baseball hats will be available for fans to purchase for $25.
New this year, Tailgate Village will open three hours before kickoff and will be located in the north end zone area of Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. Fans can bring their own food and beverages, including alcohol, into this area, which offers prime viewing of pregame and first half game action. Fans are also permitted to bring their own chairs and table-top grills. No open flame grilling or glass bottles will be permitted in this area.
As part of Youth Sports Night, presented by Weis Markets, youth football and cheerleading teams will be treated to on-field experiences. Discounted admission for family and friends of attending youth football and cheerleaders will also be available.
The re-vamped Geisinger Kids Zone will be located in the closed end of the stadium. Featuring inflatables and face painting, it is open to all children.
Tickets are available at the Campus Box Office and cost $10 for adults, $5 for children (18 and under) and $5 for seniors (62+). To purchase tickets, visit Bucknell.edu/BoxOffice or call 570-577-1000. All single-game tickets are for general admission to Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
