About the Bison
• The Bison began their season last weekend with three matches at the Youngstown Invitational. The Bison went 2-1, with wins over The Citadel and St. Francis. The one loss came in a 3-1 contest with Youngstown State.
• Seniors Mimi Richards and Bridgette Holland were each named to the All-Tournament team last weekend. Richards averaged just under 10 kills per match and a hitting percentage over .300. Holland totaled 29 kills and nine block assists while posting a .292 percentage. Richards was named a Patriot League Player of the Week Honorable Mention this week.Â
• On Tuesday, freshman setter Kelsey O'Loughlin was named Patriot League Volleyball Rookie of the Week after a standout collegiate debut at the Youngstown Invitational. O'Loughlin led the team in both Assists (111) and service aces (8), while also ranking third in digs (29).
• Also putting together an impressive outing last weekend was senior Sophie Bullard. Bullard led the team with 37 digs, including a 16-dig performance against The Citadel.
• The Bison managed to sweep Saint Francis 3-0 in the third and final match of the weekend. As a team, Bucknell maintained a .236 hitting percentage in the win over the Red Flash.
• Bucknell is 24-4 all-time in matches with Siena, Saint Peter's, and St. Francis Brooklyn.
Scouting the Opponents
• Hampton went 8-19 last season, and has opened the 2019 season at 2-0 after a pair of sweeps over Norfolk State. Hampton senior Megann Delgado was named to the Big South Preseason All-Conference team after leading the league in kills last season.
• Saint Peter's was 9-25 last season, and has dropped the first three matches in 2019. The Peacocks are led by 2018 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year Karen Ramiu.
• St. Francis Brooklyn is off to a perfect 3-0 start to the 2019 season after going 10-18 last year. Senior Wies Hurkmans and sophomore Angelee Ng were named to the Terrier Classic All-Tournament Team for their efforts in the wins.
• Siena finished last season at 4-28, and dropped its 2019 opener to Coppin State on Sunday. The Saints are in year two under head coach Vilis Ozols.
Series History with the Opponents
• Bucknell is 10-0 in the all-time series with Saint Peter's, including wins in each of the last two seasons. Sophie Bullard led the team with 21 kills in the 3-1 victory last year.
• Bucknell is 1-4 all-time when playing Siena. The two teams last faced in 2007.
• Bucknell is 13-0 in the all-time series with St. Francis Brooklyn. The Bison last defeated the Terriers in 2009.
Up Next
The Bison will face Rhode Island and Central Connecticut State, as well as a second meeting with Saint Peter's, at the CCSU Invitational in New Britain, Conn. next weekend. The Bison's first match is set for 7 p.m. on Sept. 13.
