LEWISBURG, Pa. - Three Bison posted double-digit kills to lift Bucknell past Lafayette in the team's first Patriot League win of the season on Sunday. With the win, the Bison move to 1-1 in league play and 12-2 overall.
The Bison raced to a 25-17 win in the first set before dropping the second to the Leopards. The team showed resilience in the third and fourth, however, as each was won by three or less points.Â
Senior Sophie Bullard posted a massive double-double in the win with a team-high 15 kills to go along with 17 digs. Bullard also had one block assist and maintained a .268 hitting percentage in the match.
Meanwhile, junior Anna Carroll and sophomore Emma Buchanan held the Leopards in check at the net. Each recorded four block assists and one solo block. Carroll also provided eleven kills on the day. Senior Mimi Richards finished just behind Bullard with 13 kills on 30 total attempts while joining in on three block assists.Â
Â
Setter Kelsey O'Loughlin posted the second-most assists of her career with 47. The freshman also had three kills and a team-high .286 hitting percentage, while Brooke Stark led the team with 22 digs. As a unit, the Bison's percentage was over .280 in two of the four sets.
"I'm happy with our progress this weekend," said head coach Anna Allison. " We played a strong Lehigh team and were able to adjust and refocus for a very scrappy Lafayette team. There's a lot of work to do as we continue to improve in the Patriot League."Â
Bucknell gets back to work next weekend with road matches at Loyola and American. Friday's match is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network.Â
