LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell football team reported for preseason camp today.
The Bison, who will conduct their first practice tomorrow night from 7 to 9 p.m. at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium, are preparing for their 134th season of competition and first under head coach Dave Cecchini.Â
"As a coach, you're always excited for the first day of preseason camp," Cecchini said. "Our players have been working tremendously hard over the summer, and our coaching staff is really looking forward to seeing how much that hard work pays off over the next three weeks."
Cecchini's Bison will hold two open scrimmages over the course of camp. The first is set for Sunday, Aug. 11 from 3 to 5 p.m. while the second is slated for Sunday, Aug. 18 from 7 to 9 p.m. Both scrimmages will be held at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium, weather permitting, and highlight a three-week schedule.
Bucknell will face a challenging schedule in 2019, which includes FBS opponent Temple and four squads that cracked the FCS's top 10 over the course of the 2018 campaign. The Bison will host five games, with their home opener set for Saturday, Sept. 14 against Villanova. They will also take on Princeton (Sept. 28), Holy Cross (Oct. 5), Lehigh (Nov. 9) and Georgetown (Nov. 16) at home. Season tickets and tickets to Bucknell's season opener at Temple are currently on sale at the Campus Box Office.
The Bison return an All-American and three-time All-Patriot League selection in punter Alex Pechin and a two-time All-Patriot League pick in linebacker Simeon Page. During the off-season, both were voted to the 2019 Preseason All-Patriot League Team. In addition, Pechin has captured numerous national preseason accolades.
For prospective student-athletes who want to attend a scrimmage, note that the period between Aug. 1 and Aug. 30 is an NCAA Dead Period for football. During a dead period, a college coach may not have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents.
