Men's Track and Field Third After Day One of PL Championships

4x800 Squad Breaks School Record
WORCESTER, Mass. -- A school-record showing by the 4x800 team of Scott Gulizio, Owen Concaugh, Robert Dessoye and Jake Stupak highlighted a strong day one for the Bucknell University men's track and field team on Friday.  Matt Fay took silver in the pole vault to lead two Bison vaulters in the top four, as the Bucknell men sit in third place after the first day of action with 31 points.  Navy (83) leads after the first day, followed by Army (68). Bucknell, Boston University (27), Lehigh (9), Holy Cross (7), Lafayette (6), and Colgate (2) round out the field.Â
Results
The 4x800 squad broke the previous school-record of 7:30.63 set in 2012 after clocking a time of 7:28.17, an IC4A standard by nearly 15 seconds, to finish in third overall.  The race came down to the wire, with Navy (7:27.59) and Army (7:27.93) taking the top two spots.Â
Fay, the reigning Patriot League Champion in the indoor pole vault, was edged by Navy's Stefano Pineda (16-7.5) for the Patriot League gold.  Fay (16-5.5), took silver for his highest-ever finish at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships after finishing in third at last year's meet. Nicholas Marino (16-2.75), rounded out a strong showing for the Bison in the pole vault, taking fourth as Bucknell compiled 13 points between the two. Â
C.J. Falcioni provided a strong performance in the hammer throw (6th, 185-8), a personal-best that remains the seventh-best throw in Bucknell history.  Jordan Montero also scored in the javelin (5th, 205-1), just under two feet shy of making the top ten in Bucknell history Â
Landin Delaney scored in the 10,000 to start the Championships (6th, 31:13.34), a personal-best. Steven Bolger picked up two points in the long jump (7th, 22-5).   Â
Bobby Gablein qualified for the finals in the 100 after posting a time of 10.75 to finish with the seventh-fastest time in the prelims.  Gablein's time was a personal-best, after clocking a 10.79 in the 100 at last weekend's Maroon and Gold Invite.
Billy Melchionni (21.38) also qualified for the finals in the 200, posting the third-fastest time in the prelims. Jeff Brown (22.40) and Ryquan Harris (22.59) narrowly missed out on moving on to Saturday's final. Â
Jack Memoli placed ninth in the 110 hurdles (14.92) breaking 15 seconds for the first time this season.    Â
The Bison will conclude the Outdoor Championships on Saturday, with the final day streamed live on the Patriot League Network.Â
