JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—Will Briggs wrapped up the Bucknell competitors at the NCAA East Preliminaries on Friday afternoon after taking 46th in the discus at the meet.
"Will didn't have his best day, but being here for the first time is a tremendous experience and now he knows what it takes to be successful at this meet and he is prepared to do the work," said Head Coach Kevin Donner.
Briggs rounded out the participants for Bucknell at the meet, with Jake Stupak, Matt Fay, Nicholas Marino, and Maura Fiamoncini all competing on Thursday.
Fiamoncini moved on in the javelin for the second consecutive year on Thursday after posting the second-longest throw on the day (176-9). Fay cleared 16-9.75 to finish 26th in the pole vault, while Nicholas Marino was 36th overall. Jake Stupak took 38th in the 1500 to round out yesterday's competitors.
Briggs, the school-record holder in the discus (177-9), placed 46th after a throw of 151-5. The junior posted a successful season after scoring in the Patriot League Championships in seventh and placing 12th at IC4As. Briggs broke the school record at the Maroon and Gold Invite in Bloomsburg, Pa. on April 24, and was the 30th seed entering the meet.
Fiamoncini will now turn her attention to the NCAA Outdoor Championships held in Austin, Texas on June 6-8.
