LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell softball had two players named to the NFCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region Team on Thursday. Senior Anna Gimmestad and freshman Allyse Volpe each made the Third Team, giving the Bison two honorees in the same season for just the second time in program history.
Gimmestad was a First Team All-Patriot League selection this season and then added Patriot League All-Tournament recognition after batting .500 over three games. For the season, the senior ranks second in home runs (7), third in slugging percentage (.575), third in runs scored (30), fourth in batting average (.344), fourth in total bases (92), and fifth in RBIs (32).
Gimmestad's best season at Bucknell coincided with the team's best season in Patriot League play. The Bison set a program record for PL wins with a record of 14-3. The shortstop hit .451 (23-51) with four doubles, four home runs, 16 RBIs, and 13 runs scored in those games. She added five walks for an on-base percentage of .500 and posted a .765 slugging percentage.
Volpe was the Rookie of the Year in the Patriot League and a First Team All-PL selection in the outfield. She leads the conference in batting average (.399) and on-base percentage (.442), and ranks in the top five in slugging percentage (.531), hits (57), triples (4), and stolen bases (17).
Volpe was the best hitter in the conference when it came to Patriot League only stats. In her 14 games, she hit .531 (26-49) with one double, two triples, 13 runs scored, and eight stolen bases. The freshman had a slugging percentage of .633 and on-base percentage of .566 in league play.
The only other time Bucknell had two All-Region selections was in in 1999 when Jenna Demetriades and Stacey Waite each made the Second Team.
