CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – For the third year in a row, Bucknell's Christian Klipstein and Reed Malas were recognized on the Academic All-Patriot League Team, the league office announced Wednesday morning.
Klipstein and Malas, both senior captains, are the first two Bison to make the Academic All-Patriot League all three years they were eligible to be honored. Five Bison previously graduated as two-time Academic All-Patriot League honorees, most recently Will Sands in 2018.
Klipstein is a rare four-year starter in the cage. An All-Patriot League Second Team goalkeeper in 2017 and 2016, he finished third in school history with 593 career saves. He posted a goals against average south of 10 in 2016 (8.41) and 2018 (9.11), with his best single-season save percentage of .579 coming as a freshman. This season, he reached the double digits in stops 11 times, topping out at 20 against No. 6 Loyola. His 184 saves in 2019 slotted him seventh in the Bison annals. A Psychology major with a Philosophy minor, he plans to become a lacrosse coach following graduation.
Malas has started every game at midfield over the past three seasons, reaching the 25-point threshold in each. In 2018, he enjoyed a breakout year, placing fourth on the team with 34 points (22g-12a) while helping the Bison capture a share of the Patriot League regular-season title and achieve a top-10 national ranking. For his efforts, he earned All-Patriot League Second Team accolades. This year, he was selected as one of 30 candidates for the 2019 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate men's lacrosse.
During his time in college, Malas interned for Deutsche Bank Securities Inc., CVCCredit Partners and Morgan Stanley. He was also heavily involved in the youth lacrosse community in his hometown of Mamaroneck, New York. An Accounting & Financial Management major with a team-best 3.96 cumulative grade point average, he will work for Deutsche Bank healthcare investment banking after graduation.
