LEWISBURG, Pa. – Following a historic series sweep at Lehigh over the weekend, Bucknell softball had two players earn Patriot League weekly awards on Tuesday. Raeanne Geffert was named the Pitcher of the Week, while Allyse Volpe was selected as the Rookie of the Week.
Bucknell improved to 16-15 overall and 6-0 in the Patriot League. The Bison were the first Patriot League team ever to sweep Lehigh in a series of at least three games.
Geffert pitched a no-hitter and had two complete-game wins in the series. Her first career no-hitter came in a 2-0 win in the first game. She retired the first 12 batters in order before allowing the first Lehigh baserunner with a walk. She finished with three walks and four strikeouts.
Geffert returned to the circle the following day and pitched Bucknell to an 8-3 win in the final game of the series. All three runs were scored in the same inning, giving the junior 13 scoreless innings in the series.
Volpe reached base in nine of her 12 plate appearances, going 6-for-9 with three walks. The freshman was a perfect 3-for-3 in a 14-3 win in the second game of the series. She had a hit to lead off an inning five times over the three games.
The first-place Bison will host Lafayette for a three-game Patriot League series on Saturday and Sunday at Becker Field.
