Slagus, Melchionni Receive Christy Mathewson Awards at Bucknell Athletics Senior Recognition Banquet

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell Department of Athletics & Recreation paid tribute to 168 senior student-athletes at the 58th Annual Senior Recognition Banquet on Tuesday evening at Sojka Pavilion. Taking home top honors were Kaitlyn Slagus of the women's basketball program and Billy Melchionni for men's track and field, who received the prestigious Christy Mathewson Award as the most outstanding male and female senior athletes.Â
The senior awards recognize a wide range of accomplishments, from on-field success, to academics, community service, commitment to diversity, and other contributions to the department and to the University. Six of the awards were revealed over the last week, and five were presented at Tuesday's banquet, which was emceed by student-athletes Callie DeWitt, Jamisen DeWitt and Matt O'Reilly.
In addition, a vote was conducted for the 2018-19 "Moment of the Year", and the winner was the women's cross country team capturing the 2018 Patriot League Championship in the rain and mud on its home course.Â

- Alvin F. Jackson Jr. Memorial Scholar-Athlete Award:Â Nicole Rupnik (field hockey), Jeff Gottesman (baseball)

BRYAN-HUMPHREYS AWARD: Presented to a student-athlete who has exhibited exceptional versatility within his/her sport, displaying outstanding achievement and the selfless determination to help the team succeed by contributing in a variety of ways.
