Bucknell Takes Lead in Patriot League Presidents' Cup Standings through Winter Season

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- On the strength of top-three finishes in all six winter sports, including a league championship in women's basketball and a regular-season title in men's basketball, Bucknell has moved into first place in the Patriot League Presidents' Cup standings. It is an extremely tight race, however, with Bucknell's 84.5 points narrowly in front of Navy (82), Lehigh (81), Army West Point (78.25) and Boston University (74.25).
The Bison winter sports teams enjoyed another typically strong year. Both basketball teams finished in a tie for first place in the 10-team league during the regular season. The women went on to win the championship for the second time in the last three years. The men, who have now won five straight and eight of the last nine regular-season titles, fell to Colgate in the championship game of the Patriot League Tournament. Bucknell also earned third-place finishes in men's and women's swimming and diving, and men's and women's indoor track and field.Â

The Bison also have the lead in the Women's Cup race with 48.25 points, ahead of Navy with 45.5. In the Men's Cup standings, Bucknell is fourth with 36.25 points, behind Army (40), Lehigh (37) and Navy (36.5).Â

Patriot League Presidents' Cup points are awarded based on the combination of a team's finish in the regular and postseason Patriot League standings. In cross country, golf, rowing, swimming and diving and track and field, the points are awarded based on the final team finish at the Patriot League Championship. Points for football are based on regular-season standings.
Bucknell has won the overall title 18 times in the Patriot League's 28-year history. Navy has captured the last five Presidents' Cup titles.
