LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell head football coach Dave Cecchini completed his staff on Thursday with the additions of Keith Larson and Joe Lyberger.
Both young, up-and-coming coaches, Larson will serve as an offensive assistant while Lyberger will be a defensive assistant. Larson was most recently the special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute while Lyberger worked as a graduate assistant coach with Bison defensive coordinator Ryan Manalac at Ohio Dominican University.
Larson has been on the RPI staff since the spring of 2016. Originally the defensive backs coach, he was promoted to special teams coordinator ahead of spring practice in 2018. Over the course of his final two seasons in Troy, the Engineers went a combined 18-5 (8-2 Liberty League) and won two Liberty League titles. As Liberty League champions, they qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship each year; in 2018, they advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals for the second time in program history. Â Â
Before his time at RPI, Larson worked with the defensive backs at Robert Morris University (Ill.) as a graduate assistant coach for the 2014 and 2015 campaigns. There, he worked closely with the defensive coordinator, helping the Eagles finish 8-3 in 2014.
Larson also has experience in football operations, serving as RPI's director of football operations and Robert Morris's football operations graduate assistant in addition to his coaching duties. At Robert Morris, he also worked as an athletic admissions and financial aid counselor.
During his collegiate playing days, Larson was a three-year letterwinner at Valparaiso University. A safety, he also served as special teams captain. He graduated from Valparaiso in 2014 with a degree in business management and completed his master's in sports administration from Robert Morris in 2015.
Lyberger spent the 2018 campaign as a graduate assistant at Ohio Dominican, helping the Panthers post a 9-2 (6-2 Great Midwest Athletic Conference) record. He worked closely with the linebackers while also assisting with film breakdown, operations and recruiting.
Lyberger coached at the high school level, serving as an assistant football coach and assistant wrestling coach at Olentangy High School. He also spent time in private business following his graduation from Slippery Rock University, where he played on the football team. Â
Lyberger graduated from Slippery Rock in 2016 with a degree in business administration with a focus on marketing. He is the middle of completing his MBA at Ohio Dominican.
