Villalpando Added to Water Polo Staff

LEWISBURG, Pa.--Â Arturo Villalpando has been named the new Assistant Water Polo Coach at Bucknell Head Coach John McBride announced.Â
Villalpando brings a wealth of experience around the pool after having served since 2015 as a Head Coach and Aquatics Director at Bonita High School in La Verne, Calif. As the Head Coach at La Verne, Villalpando oversaw three aquatic programs with over 180 athletes and developed year-round plans including tactics, fundamentals, and fitness. He also compiled scouting reports and assisted with social media and film analysis. He was also named the 2016-17 San Gabriel Valley Tribune Coach of the Year. Numerous players under Villalpando's tutelage went on to play at the Division I level. Â
In addition to his duties at La Verne, he also served as a coach and administrator for the Foothill Club Water Polo based in Pomona, Calif. While coaching, he helped lead the team to the bronze medal at the 2013 United States Club Championships and a fourth place finish at the 2014 Jr. Olympics.Â
Villalpando has also served as an Assistant Coach at Citrus College in Glendora, Calif. In addition to coaching, he helped record statistics, with recruiting, and assisted in game strategy and conditioning. He also spent two years as a coach in the Olympic Development Program in the Coastal California Region.Â
In addition to his coaching experience, Villalpando enjoyed a decorated career as a student-athlete at La Verne. He was honored as a Division III All-American in 2009, and was a four-year starter for the Leopards as a utility.Â
