LEWISBURG, Pa. – Rade Joksimovic and Logan Schofield of the Bucknell men's water polo team each earned All-American distinction from the ACWPC, the organization announced on Tuesday afternoon. Joksimovic was named to the First Team for the first time in his career, while Schofield earned Honorable Mention honors for the second straight season.
Joksimovic becomes the first First Team All-American in program history after earning Second Team honors in 2018 and Third Team honors in 2016. Joksimovic was also an Honorable Mention selection in 2017. The senior joined Scott Schulte as the only multi-time All-American in Bucknell men's water polo history last season, and now stands alone as the only Bison to ever earn a spot on the All-American teams three times.
The native of Novi Sad, Serbia capped off a remarkable senior season in which he earned MAWPC Player of the Year honors for the fourth straight year, and was also named the MAWPC Player of the Tournament. Joksimovic proved an instrumental part in helping Bucknell win the title to advance to the NCAA Championships for just the second time since 1985. In the Bucknell record books, Joksimovic finished his Bucknell career second in points (714) second in goals (527), fifth in assists (187), first in steals (317), and tenth in ejections drawn (124). The senior also finished his career having started the most games in Bucknell history (120).
Joksimovic compiled 139 goals this season while adding 42 assists for 181 points, the sixth-most in a single season in school history. One of Joksimovic's finest moments came in the NCAA Tournament win at No. 9 and previously undefeated Harvard, where he scored six goals en route to helping Bucknell advance to the quarterfinal stage in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. Joksimovic was the only selection on any of the three All-American teams from an institution not in the state of California.
Schofield joins Joksimovic as a repeat selection after a stellar senior year in the center for the Bison. The senior managed 116 ejections drawn this season, the third-most in school history. Offensively, Schofield added 66 goals and an assist this season, while chipping in 25 steals on the defensive end. Schofield drew two big ejections to set up two of Joksimovic's three penalty shots in the first half against Harvard, and also scored two goals of his own against No. 2 USC in the National Quarterfinals. The Maumee, Ohio native finished his career with 297 ejections drawn, the second-most all-time, and appeared in 102 games for the Orange and Blue. Schofield was named an MAWPC First Team selection, as well as being named to the All Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Tournament Team. He was also selected as the Bison Athlete of the Week for his efforts in the win over the Crimson on Dec. 7. Schofield and Joksimovic join Stefan Aleksic and Jack Else as Bison who have earned multiple All-American honors under Head Coach John McBride.
Bucknell finished the season 23-9 overall, and the senior class finished with 87 wins over four years, the most successful four-year stretch by the Bison since 1982. The 23 wins are also tied for the most in a single season under Head Coach John McBride, and the Bison advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the first time in program history.
National Champion Stanford earned the Player of the Year and Coach of the Year Honors, as well as two spots on the First Team. UC Santa Barbara, UCLA, Pacific, and USC rounded out the remaining First Team Selections. The full list of the 2019 ACWPC All-American Teams is below.
