LEWISBURG, Pa. --Â The fall/winter crossover season. Always a busy time on college campuses, and the crossover season is in full swing this week, with conference championship action for some fall sports meshing with the start of basketball season.Â
The Bison men's and women's hoops teams both open the season on the road on Tuesday night. The men are at Fairfield and the women at Virginia, with both games tipping at 7 p.m. If you don't have the ESPN app, this would be a good time to download it, as both games will be streamed via the ESPN digital platform. After debuting on the road, both squads will play at home over the weekend, and both will be raising championship banners. The women play Saturday evening at 6 p.m. against Monmouth, with the men following on Sunday at 2 p.m. against America East power Vermont.Â
Don't forget, it's an Orange Out weekend for both basketball games and the home football game against Lehigh. Fans can get the official Orange Out t-shirt at Weis Markets this week (one shirt for every $50 spent in groceries), and there is a special Orange Out combo pack, with a ticket to all three games for just $20.Â
For those of you going to the football game, don't forget to bring your dog! That's right, it's the inaugural "Canines at Christy" game on Saturday when the Bison host Lehigh at 1 p.m.Â
Also playing at home this week is the Bucknell men's water polo team. Now 17-7 on the season and ranked No. 15 nationally, the Bison host conference rivals Navy (11 a.m.) and George Washington (4 p.m.) on Sunday. So if you are planning to attend the basketball game, you can bookend it with a pair of big water polo games right next door.
Turning to the fall sports, this is a huge week for the Bison field hockey and men's soccer teams. Field hockey punched its ticket to the Patriot League Tournament for the 12th straight year with a 2-1 win over Holy Cross on Saturday, and the Bison will take on Lafayette in the semifinals on Friday in Washington, D.C. Meanwhile, the men's soccer team travels to Lehigh on Wednesday night for the final game of the regular season. Bucknell enters the game tied for fifth place in the league standings, so Wednesday's results will determine the final spots for the six-team Patriot League Tournament. If the Bison secure a bid, they would have to turn right around and play a quarterfinal game on Saturday.Â
